MRT & LRT Routes and Travel Times

Travelling Times

The travelling time presented by MRT.SG for a particular route is an indication of the total time needed to make the trip. It is derived based on average times for train travel, walking between platforms (when changing trains), waiting and stopping. Since average times are used, commuters should expect variances in their actual trip times.

Other factors (not included by MRT.SG) affecting travelling times are maintenance works and train/track faults which typically lead to delays. Congestion during peak hours may also cause delays although train arrival frequencies tend to be higher during peak hours and thus could shorten total travelling times.

Additionally, LRT networks may have special schedules that change (usually increase) travelling times on some routes depending on the time of the day. Commuters are advised to check with staff of the interchange stations (between the LRT/MRT networks) for more details and the latest updates.

Finally, commuters should note that the first/last trains (and some trains during other times) of the day may not cover the full route of a train line. Such trains may not proceed to the terminal stations of the line. For such trips, commuters should check with station staff to ensure they can complete their journeys on time.

Routes and Directions

The routes presented in MRT.SG are based on the fastest travelling time required between the starting and ending stations. Such times are calculated as described above ("Travelling Times").

The directions shown in mrt.sg/fare are based on experimental modelling of the MRT/LRT system to derive the fastest journey times.
